Guests enjoy visiting the town of CAREFREE with its beautiful homes,
awesome boulders, shopping and many restaurants.
--
Those guests who enjoy hiking like the CAVE CREEK area. The Spur Cross
Ranch Conservation Area encompasses 2,154 acres of diverse, rugged
upper Sonoran Desert which contains fascinating archaeology sites and
lush riparian areas along Cave Creek, which flows throughout the
winter months. This area is a must see for all wildflower lovers in
the spring. The abundant vegetation provides a rich habitat for
diverse wildlife. Remnants of early mining and ranching are still
apparent in the park.
--
Cave Creek Regional Park offers over 11 miles of trails for hiking,
mountain biking and horseback riding. Park trails range in difficulty
from easy to difficult. Only minutes from the trailhead, it seems as
though you're in another world. The feeling is especially striking
just after sunrise, when in the early-morning light the only sounds
you hear are the warbling of wrens and the chatter of quail.
--
With a name like FOUNTAIN HILLS, of course there is a fountain. But
not just any fountain. Built more than 30 years ago, this dramatic
landmark is a centerpiece of the town in Fountain Park. The fountain
is located in the middle of a man-made 28-acre lake in the heart of
Fountain Hills. One of the world's highest fountains, the 560-foot
tall plume of water, shoots to the sky and is visible for many miles.
--
At FORT MCDOWELL, there is a popular casino. You can experience the
wild west at "Fort McDowell Adventures" just minutes from
one of the biggest cities in the country. Located on the 25,000 acre
Yavapai Indian Reservation, you can enjoy horseback riding and cattle
drives. "Saguaro Lake Ranch Trail Rides" in the Tonto
National Forest lets you experience the "Old West" on trails
that take you on saguaro cactus covered ridges, across and along the
Salt River and up hills that overlook Saguaro Lake.
--
Enjoy boating and fishing? SAGUARO LAKE is close by! Saguaro Lake is
one of the lakes closest to Phoenix. You can take a leisurely tour of
Saguaro Lake on the Desert Belle PADDLE BOAT. Passengers learn about
the desert, the lakes, the mountains, the flora and the fauna from the
Captain as the tour takes them about 5 miles into the lake and back.
